Our Founder & Story
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Angela Nesbitt founded Loving Me Books with a mission to empower children through literature that celebrates self-love, cultural diversity, and the richness of Black voices. As a Behavioral Therapist working in schools, Angela witnessed firsthand the absence of books that reflected the diverse backgrounds and experiences of children of color. She observed students eagerly racing to pick up the few books they could find featuring Black characters—books that reflected their lives and identities. This realization fueled Angela’s determination to create a space where underrepresented children could see themselves in the stories they read. With Loving Me Books, Angela is committed to filling the gap in children’s literature by offering books that nurture self-love, cultural pride, and inclusivity. Our collection is thoughtfully curated to inspire children of all backgrounds, but especially those of color, empowering them to embrace their unique stories and see the beauty in their heritage.
